Today’s story is the first part in the journey that led the Pommy Mommy family to our new rescue Pomeranian Mika! We met a great girl Poppy Seed before we met Mika, and this is Poppy’s story.
On a recent trip to the local shelter my husband and I went to visit a cute little Pomeranian named Poppy Seed! We have been watching Poppy on the shelter website for sometime and we were shocked that such a sweet and loving dog was at the shelter and not snatched up by a loving family! We decided to go down for a visit. The first time I saw Poppy she was bouncing up and down in her kennel at the shelter! She could not wait to be taken out and played with. We took her to a special area so that we could play with her and give her lots of lovin. Poppy is a very special girl who is six years old and has a cataract in her right eye.
The next step we had to take is to see if our current Pomeranians Sophia and Yoki would get along with her. It was getting close to closing time so we had to wait until the next day to bring them down to the shelter to meet Poppy. We woke up bright and early the next day, so excited to take the girls to meet Poppy!
We went strolling (took the Poms in the stroller for dogs) into the shelter with the girls dressed up in their cute dresses and coats and bows. They looked like little movie stars. However they don’t forget where they came from! Yoki and Sophia came from abused backgrounds as well. They were the center of attention at the shelter with everyone coming up and petting them! We told them that we were going to meet with Poppy, a Pomeranian in need of a good home.
We waited outside in a fenced in area for Poppy to be brought up to us from her kennel. When Poppy came out she didn’t pay much attention to the girls. She was busy barking at a big dog playing on the other side of the fence! We called her over to come and meet Sophia and Yoki and she was bouncing up and down, all around! Yoki was pretty nervous around her and Sophia just ignored her. Poppy has such great level of energy and loves to pounce and bounce all around. She is also a little over twelve pounds. Yoki is very shy and is less than half her size. Yoki is still working on coming out of her shell. She was abused so bad that she is very reserved and didn’t understand that Poppy just wanted to play with her. Also as some of you know Sophia is around three pounds and very cripple. She has a hard time getting around because of the abuse she
went though with her previous owners. For safety reasons and to be fair to everyone we decided that Poppy would be a great match for another family, and we are working very hard to make sure she gets adopted into a wonderful home. She is such a great girl with a lot of life and love to give. If you live in the Las Vegas area and you are looking for a Pomeranian who loves to play and has lots of energy, Poppy is your girl! I encourage you to give her a chance and see if she will make a great match for your home.
The day my husband and I went to visit Poppy without the dogs I spotted a shivering shaved Pomeranian locked up in a her kennel with two other “cage mates” She looked at me and I looked at her and I could tell she had an old sole. Her eyes were so sweet and loving. We asked if we could see her and the people who worked at the shelter said that at this time she was not up for adoption because she had just had major surgery. She had 17 teeth pulled and her coat was in such bad shape they had to shave her. We were told to come back next week and she should be ready for adoption.
This is where I’m going to stop and leave you hanging with a bit of a “cliff hanger!” The next blog post will be all about Mika! Make sure to stay tuned to find out how Mika came to be apart of the Pommy Mommy Home!

PommyMommy you have made me so excited please don’t take to long for the rest of Mika’s story! I truly hope Poppy will be adopted soon too
Is this a kill shelter? And glad you found Mika, praying that poppy seed finds a home to call her own!
Hi Julie,
The Nevada SPCA is not a kill shelter, however the employees pulled Mika out of a kill shelter to be rescued! How she ended up in a kill shelter in the first place I’ll never know. I’m forever grateful that she was saved, she’s the sweetest girl.
Is Poppy still up for adoption?
Yes she is! Are you interested in her? I’m more than happy to help you in any way I can with her adoption! 🙂

Yes, she is still available! Jennifer do you live here in Las Vegas? I’d love to talk to you more about her.
