This fantastic and informative illustration was done by Lili Chin of Doggie Drawings. It informs you how to NOT greet a dog and how to greet them the correct way.
So many times people come to the house and the Pomeranian’s go crazy barking and jumping all over the “stranger.”
Being the youngest, Yoki is the most energetic and can bark the longest at a new person. My guests try and pet her but she quickly runs away from them. The person takes this as, “Oh, I guess she didn’t want to play after all” However that’s not the case at all! She is just terrified that a big hand is coming right for her little head when they go to pet her!
The best thing to do is simply tell your guests ahead of time how to greet your Pomeranian! I even give guests a small treat to give to the girls. Sort of like a “peace offering” Also to show the Pomeranian’s if they behave when new people come in the house, they get a treat!

I totally agree with you. Whenever my Pom and I go out children are always running up and trying to hug her and pet her, which always makes her run away. I also whip out the treats when guests come over. She always trust those who feed her. 🙂 Great post on pomeranian greeting.
100% agree!! I always tell my guest to just ignore them. Works like a charm everytime. It’s however a very hard thing for people to do
So true! The stroller comes in handy places like the Farmer’s Market where there are a lot of people. That way they can admire my Poms but not touch them!
Seems our Oreo is afraid of nothing. No matter how many people – he’s on everyone’s lap in no time. Guess he just has that outgoing personality.
Good advice for dog people and non dog people alike!

Thanks – I thought I was the only one with a pom with no OFF Button.
