Hi… my name is Christina Rallo-Daniels. I’m a Pommy Mommy and an Attorney now pursuing advanced degree in psychotherapy, working as a group facilitator doing psycho-educational work with children who are trauma survivors. For many years my mother lived with me and took care of Ruby with me. After my mom passed I worked from home so Ruby could always be with me, and trust me… she was. She also went with me everywhere, restaurants, shopping, museums, art galleries, visiting friends and family… She flew with me down south and out west when we stayed in doggie friendly hotels. Ruby has always been so elegant, funny, adorable, and well behaved that she was the perfect socialite, comfortable and accepted everywhere, quite the social butterfly! If she had wings she’d flutter. I couldn’t imagine life without her.
I realized I wanted a Pomeranian after Ruby found me. She was a stray out on a New York beach, I found her eating from spilled garbage… drinking ocean water. I thought she had tumors because there were so many lumps because she was matted so badly. No one claimed her… so I took her home.
Before Ruby, I had a poodle and never really thought about another dog but then Ruby found me… actually, found us, and began to show us what a wonder a little Pom can be. She is an amazing tiny force of nature, a powerful combo of personality, cuteness, intelligence, and heart. Beautiful beyond words and able to communicate a full spectrum of emotions and ideas without words.
Ruby instantly set herself up as the leader of our pack. My poodle was aging and Ruby would watch her and nudge her when she didn’t hear or see as well as she used to. Ruby told us when something was wrong in the family and she cared for mom when she wasn’t well. She also helped raise five little kittens, just one day old found in the trash. We affectionately called them Ruby’s kitties and she wrangled and corralled then, groomed them, and played with them until they got to be much bigger than she was. This little girl is also quite versatile … she plays the princess well but is also quite a tomboy, clown, and psychiatrist, when necessary.
She plays to her audience at all times… be it a child, a man, woman, a senior, or any other breed of dog. These days she has taken command of my husband of two years, a big “hunky” man’s man… who she dominates with cute antics and demanding barking. She also has two doggie step brothers, a 100 pound yellow lab and a border collie which she has developed unique relationships with each of them based on their personalities and proportion.
It was in no way a difficult decision to make Ruby part of my life. She was immediately and remains now 13 years later my best friend. We have done so much together and will do more. What makes me an awesome pommy mommy? My awesome pommy does of course! She brings out the best in me and is a constant companion and source of joy.
