As many of us who adopt rescue Pomeranians I found my Scarlett on Petfinder.com, and her story on the website was just too sad. I knew I had to give her a forever home.
Scarlett was 11 yrs old when I adopted her from the animal shelter. The story about how she arrived at the shelter is absolutely appalling. This beautiful baby was found in a pet carrier on the side of the expressway in the middle of a frigid winter. The lady who picked her up had seen the carrier on her way to work for 3 days before she stopped.
Scarlett was in the carrier with a kitty who had died from exposure. I still can’t imagine how horrible those days must have been! Freezing… and your crate mate was literally dying right next to you. When she was brought in to the shelter and examined, diagnosis wasn’t the most pleasant, she had level 4/4 luxating patellas in both rear legs, mammary tumors, and horribly rotten teeth. I knew no one would want her with that many medical issues.
I thought I would bring her home and give her the pampering she never had. She was so quiet the first two weeks getting used to her surroundings. She was a bit skittish at first and shook like a leaf when she heard or saw a car. Rain or even the sound of the shower frightened her to the point of more shaking.
Slowly, as her health improved, her true personality was revealed. As most Pomeranians, Scarlett is the outgoing boss of the house! We call her the”Little General”. We have 3 other dogs, all boys, they have absolutely no say and obey her every command. I have never seen a happier dog in my whole life. She bounces and spins from the moment she wakes up full of energy and loving the new life she’s been given.
She makes me laugh every single day. I am so glad we adopted her and cherish every day we have.
