Actress, author and cancer survivor Fran Drescher – star of The Nanny, Living with Fran and Happily Divorced – is the proud Pommy Mommy of Esther, an extra-poofy chocolate Pomeranian.
Wherever Drescher is, Esther isn’t far from her side. Pom Mom and dog go almost everywhere together. The little bundle of cuteness, which some say bares a slight resemblance to an Ewok from Star Wars, often accompanies her to red-carpet events. Esther was also cast as a regular on her sitcom Living with Fran, which is about a 25-year-old medical student who gets kicked out of school and moves home to find that her mother is living with her 24-year-old boyfriend. (Drescher’s previous Pom, Chester, had a recurring role on The Nanny and lived to be 19 years old.)
Esther appeared on the day-time TV show The Talk when Drescher was a guest on the show in 2011. The fluffy Pom has been tucked under her arm during several other TV interviews as well.
Most notably, Esther the Pomeranian is seen stealing the scene on-screen in Drescher’s newest sitcom Happily Divorced, which will
return for a second season this year. The little ball of fluff even has her very own “Hollywood” chair on the set. The TV show was inspired by Drescher’s real-life experiences and her marriage to ex-husband, Peter Marc Jacobson.
Esther has been seen sporting her very own personalized Pom-size T-shirt when Drescher appeared at an event for the Cancer Schmancer Movement, an organization she founded that is dedicated to saving lives through prevention and the early detection of cancer. Drescher also authored a book in 2002 called “Cancer Schmancer” about her battle with uterine cancer, and now helps others fight against it.
“I got famous, then I got cancer, and now I live to talk about it,” Drescher writes on the Cancer Schmancer
website. “Please lock elbows with me and join the Cancer Schmancer Movement so together we can do what needs to be done, so less of us will die prematurely.”
In addition to her roles on The Nanny, Living with Fran and Happily Divorced, Drescher has been in the films Saturday Night Fever with John Travolta, The Beautician and the Beast, and Picking Up the Pieces, co-starring Woody Allen.
When asked about her sweet Pommy Esther, who Drescher brought home in 2001, she has told reporters: “They programmed her to be the sweetest, nicest, kindest energy force that humans can ever imagine…I got a magical creature that enriches my life every single day.”
Yep, I’m pretty sure that’s how all of us Pommy Mommys feel about our precious Poms!
Peace, Love & Pomeranians,
Pom Mom Jaime Mowers
