We had lost 3 lhasa Apsos all of which lived to be 15 yrs old. We told ourselves, no more dogs… it was just to hard to lose another kid. Famous last words. Well, we had a BBQ and a friend of ours tells us; ” Oh I know this lady who rescues Yorkies and she is looking to find a home for a sweet little Pom”. The BBQ was on a Saturday and by the next Monday our Punkin was brought to us…. we instantly fell in love with him.
Shortly after we rescued Punkin we got what we thought was bad news… we had brought him to the Vet and found out that he has an enlarged heart, it fills the whole heart cavity, which is rare. The prognosis was that he would not live long but 5 yrs later he is still with us.
My husband drives a truck for a living and is gone 5-6 days a week. So for those days my “PunkyWunky Doodlebug” is my baby… but the days my husband is home he is staved for daddy’s attention. He even sleeps on my husbands pillow like a person.
I think Punkin is the most spoiled Pom in the world… but as a Pommy Mommy I know we all think that. I personally like to spoil him rotten. He loves to wear clothes… so we buy tons of cute clothes for him. He likes to play dress up so much that we bought him an elf costume last year and he wore it proudly all Christmas Day.
One of his favorite things is to do tricks for Cheerios, he talks when told to, he loves our walks, loves jumping in the snow and swims with a life jacket we got him, during the Summer. He loves riding in the car and goes to all the stores that will allow animals, everyone that meets him falls in love with him instantly.
He has been the most amazing companion… most of the time I know he thinks he a human. It’s hilarious because he takes on such “Human Like” characteristics. I think that’s because we are together so much. So to get him back to natural Pomeranian characteristics we decided to get him a brother or sister. We are searching as this post goes up.
I would not know what to do without my god-sent sweet angel. I will not ever have another breed of dog but a Pomeranian. God has blessed us with the best little guy in the world. I truly believe that all the love we give him has kept him alive all these years. – Submitted by Dana Schreiber
