Happy Thanksgiving “Pommy Mommies”
This time of year in the States, the air is nippy and the beautiful colored leaves are falling from the trees. It’s time for those bulky chunky knit sweaters to come out from the back of the closet! Thanksgiving is upon us; and while some of you may be wondering if your favorite football team is going to finally win, or how to creatively “avoid” your in-law’s… there is one other thing to make sure and think of. Your “bestest” furry friend… your Pomeranian!!!
You and your furry buddy may be traveling to a family or friends house, or maybe everyone is coming over to your house. Today I’m going to give you some basic “Thanksgiving” foods to AVOID and other foods that are OK for you or your family to give your baby to “snack on.” Even if you don’t ever feed your Pomeranian table scraps, you know “Uncle Tommy” just may not be able to resist sneaking your Pommy a bite. Let everyone know that these are foods to AVOID and give them a healthy choice. There’s nothing worse than a Pomeranian with an upset stomach….especially when you have a house full of people!
Thanksgiving foods to AVOID feeding your Pomeranian
Although your favorite version may be filled with caramelized brown sugar and marshmallows, hold the sugar when you give them to your sweetie pie. Plain yams are rich, delicious and a perfect sweet treat for your Pomeranian.
Bones
Cooked poultry bones can easily break and may get stuck in your Pomeranians throat or bruise their stomach, so if your pommy wants some extra goodness in their tummy, stick to white-meat turkey with no skin and no seasoning.
Onions
Powdered, Raw, Cooked, or Dehydrated — Any format of an onion can destroy a dog’s red blood cells, leading to anemia. Because Pomeranian’s are considered a “toy breed” any amount, small or large of an onion may be fatal in your Pommy. Symptoms of anemia include weakness, vomiting, little interest in food, dullness, and breathlessness.
Thanksgiving Foods that are OKAY!
Apple Slices
Raw apple slices are a great way to hold your Pomeranian over until the main course. I feed my girls apples (with no skin) all of the time when I’m cooking in the kitchen. Hold the apple pie!
Mashed Potatoes
Mashed potatoes without the gravy and butter, please! Fatty foods can cause inflammation of the pancreas, but it is OK to serve up some plain mashed potatoes without the skin for your Pomeranian.
Give your fur child a few kernels of corn and the carbs will keep them from sleeping curling up in their favorite spot before dessert!
String Beans
String beans are always a good tummy filler! They are a great healthy choice for your Pomeranian on the big turkey day! Make sure they are served up with no onions or spices and you are a-okay!
A Sweet Ending of Pumpkin
Does your little prince or princess pommy have a sweet tooth? A great way to end the night is plain cooked or canned pumpkin instead of pumpkin pie or pie filling.
Pomeranian’s love to see what’s going on by sniffing and tasting things. We all do our best to keep our Pomeranian’s safe from harm of any kind. However is always a great idea to have a plan in case a moment comes that your Pommy has eaten something he or she is not supposed to. Make sure and keep the number of your local vet, the closest emergency clinic, and the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center — (888) 426-4435 — where you know you can find it in an emergency.
Gobble, Gobble! All this talk of food is making me hungry! Off to the kitchen for this Pommy Mommy! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your’s! Have a wonderful day! Follow these helpful tips and your Pomeranians Thanksgiving should be wonderful!
