Every day I go outside in my backyard to feed the Russian Tortoise Gorby. Gorby is a rescue tortoise who has made his home very comfortably in my backyard garden. Accompanying me on my feeding journey is Maggie. She has taken on as her daily chore/duty to escort me outside to Gorby’s habitat. Before I even step outside I have to prep the tortoise food in the kitchen, Spinach, strawberries, and cucumbers. When Maggie hears me open the lid to the strawberry jar she know’s what’s going on! (Such a smart girl)
Maggie starts barking and making circles. (Feeding the tortoise is a big deal for her!) We make our way
outside into the Las Vegas heat and hunt for the tortoise if he’s not already in his usual feeding spot. Maggie will hop up in the garden and hunt for him! Nose to the ground she usually finds him quickly. (Mainly because he’s always under the same shrub keeping cool from the heat. But I let her think she’s a little Nancy Drew.) When she makes her discovery she barks at me to come and get him so we can feed him lunch.
She watches closely as he starts the long process of eating his lunch. Maggie keeps a close watch on him as he finishes he lunch. (She is
such a mom) She relaxes and hangs out in the garden until he is finished eating then jumps down from the ledge and wanders back into the cool air conditioned house.
This is one of the many little rituals the girls have around the Pommy Mommy home. I feel that it’s good to give the Pomeranian’s consistency in their every day life. Things run like clock work when we stay on schedule. They know when It’s time to wake up, eat breakfast, and their dinner! (Yes, the eating schedules are most important to them!) They are also in tune to certain signals. For example when I get the dog carrier out the girls get very excited because they know they are going to get to travel with Mommy for the day.
If you and your Pomeranian have routines as well please share them below in the comment section! I love when people share their ideas and Pomeranian lifestyles!!!
