Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)

apple cider vinegar (ACV)Several Pommy Mommies have recently inquired whether it’s safe to give their Pomeranians apple cider vinegar (ACV) and what the possible benefits might be. In this blog post, we’ll dive into the details of ACV and its potential benefits for your Pommy.

Apple cider vinegar has long been touted for its various health benefits, from treating indigestion to arthritis and even hair care. But can this natural remedy be beneficial for your Pomeranian too? With its anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and detoxifying properties, ACV offers a natural and inexpensive alternative to treatments that may contain chemicals. Many pet owners report that ACV has helped improve their dog’s skin, repel fleas and ticks, aid digestion, and more. So, should you consider adding it to your Pom’s routine?

What Are the Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar for Pomeranians?

ACV enthusiasts claim that it can offer several benefits to Pomeranians, including:

  • Improving the condition of their skin and fur
  • Repelling fleas and ticks
  • Aiding digestion
  • Alleviating arthritis
  • Reducing tear stains
  • Preventing tooth decay

Additionally, some Pomeranian parents believe ACV can help prevent bladder stones, kidney problems, and urinary tract infections. The best part? Pure ACV can be easily found at most grocery stores, and the raw, unfiltered variety is often available at health food stores.

Using Apple Cider Vinegar as a General Detoxifier

apple cider vinegar (ACV)Apple cider vinegar can act as a general detoxifier, helping your Pom become more resistant to infections, fleas, or worms. To use ACV for this purpose, start by adding small amounts to your Pom’s drinking water. The recommended dose is one teaspoon to one tablespoon of ACV per 50 pounds of body weight. Since Pomeranians are much smaller, adjust accordingly, and you can mix ACV with their food or raw honey if they dislike the taste in water.

Within a month, you should notice improvements in your Pommy’s skin, coat, digestion, and overall health. ACV may also help prevent fleas and ticks and alleviate arthritis in older Poms.

Treating Skin Problems in Pomeranians with ACV

apple cider vinegar (ACV)If your Pomeranian struggles with skin issues or fleas, an after-shampoo ACV rinse might help. Add two tablespoons of ACV to one quart of water, and apply the mixture to your Pom after their shampoo. Don’t rinse it off—simply towel dry your dog after applying the ACV.

For dandruff, try massaging ACV directly into their coat before shampooing. It can also be applied directly to minor skin irritations like sunburn, calluses, and abrasions. For flea prevention, mix half ACV and half water in a spray bottle and spritz your Pom as needed.

ACV for Ear Care

Thanks to its anti-bacterial properties, ACV is a great tool for cleaning your Pom’s ears. Soak a small cotton ball or piece of cloth with ACV and gently wipe out their ears. This can help prevent infections and keep your Pom’s ears clean.

A Pommy Mommy’s Experience with ACV

Tara Luckey-Castellano, founder of PommyMommy.com, swears by apple cider vinegar for her five Pomeranians. She uses it whenever she notices excessive itching or tear stains. By adding ACV to their community water bowl for about 30 days, Tara sees noticeable improvements in their skin and overall health.

Since Tara feeds her Poms a raw food diet, apple cider vinegar also acts as a natural preservative. The brand of raw food she uses already includes ACV, ensuring it stays fresh in the fridge between servings. “I’ve always been a big believer in natural remedies, and I’ve found this one to be a real winner,” Tara says. “Apple cider vinegar is a staple in the Pommy Mommy pantry!”

A Word of Caution

While ACV offers numerous potential benefits, it’s essential to be cautious. Apple cider vinegar is not recommended for Pomeranians suffering from chronic yeast infections, an overly acidic system, or irritated intestines, as vinegar could worsen these conditions.

Though many Pommyparents have seen success using apple cider vinegar, not all vets agree. Before adding ACV to your Pom’s routine, it’s always a good idea to consult your vet to ensure it’s safe for your furry friend.

ACV is Versatile

ACV is a versatile, natural remedy that can offer several benefits for your Pomeranian. From improving skin and coat health to preventing fleas and aiding digestion, this inexpensive treatment is worth considering for your Pommy. However, always check with your vet to make sure it’s the right option for your dog’s specific health needs.

With the proper use of apple cider vinegar, your Pommy can enjoy better health, less itching, and more comfort all year round.
