How to Pick Out a Pet Carrier for your Pomeranian

by Pommy Mommy

Let’s Go, Mommy!

pet carrierWhile out shopping the other day at the Michael Kors store, something caught my eye—a gorgeous pet carrier! I snatched it up immediately! This beautiful canvas bag is the perfect way to carry my rescue Pomeranians this summer (one at a time, of course). If Sophia weren’t so protective of her “personal space,” I’m sure I could fit both her and Yoki in there. But I won’t upset my little princess by trying!

Traveling in Style

I’ve always used a dog carrier for my Pomeranians, so they’re very accustomed to traveling in one. In fact, as soon as I get the bag out, Maggie goes wild! She barks, dances in circles, and the moment I put the carrier on the ground, she hops right in.

Tip: Don’t get the dog carrier out of the closet until you’re ready to leave! If your Pomeranian is anything like Maggie, she’ll bark and fuss at you until you’re ready to go.

Sometimes when I’m carrying a large purse, I’ll catch Maggie trying to sneak into it or lay on top of it. She’s always ready to go!

Safety First

If it were up to Maggie, she’d ride in the carrier during car rides, but I have a special dog car seat for her and the other Pomeranians. Safety is always the top priority! When I’m out running errands, most people don’t even notice that I have a dog with me. Even when Maggie’s little head is peeking out of the side of the carrier, people rarely see her!

I remember bringing Maggie and Yoki to the groomer one day. Maggie was in the carrier, and I was holding Yoki. The groomer asked, “Oh, we’re only grooming Yoki today?” I pointed to the carrier and said, “Nope, Maggie’s right here!” She was so surprised because she hadn’t even noticed Maggie tucked inside!

What to Look for in a Pet Carrier

When shopping for a pet carrier, here are a few great features to keep in mind:

  • Proper fit for your Pomeranian: Make sure your Pommy can comfortably sit and move.
  • Comfort for you: The carrier should sit comfortably on your shoulder for easy carrying.
  • Waterproof lining: Ensure the inside is waterproof for those inevitable accidents.
  • Ease of use: It should be easy to get your Pomeranian in and out of the carrier.
  • Zipped top: For added security while traveling.
  • Mesh zipper side: So your Pomeranian can safely peek out.
  • Safety hook: A clip that attaches to your Pomeranian’s collar to prevent jumping out.
  • Side pockets: Great for storing treats, extra leashes, or emergency vet numbers.

Maggie’s Ride

Check out the pictures of Maggie enjoying her ride! Though Maggie has since crossed over the Rainbow Bridge, I cherish these memories of her happily hopping into the carrier, always ready for an adventure. She loved it, and I’m sure your Pomeranian will too!
