My Little Pomeranian Alarm Clock!

My little Pomeranian alarm clock

My Pomeranian alarm clock isn’t made of metal, plastic, or any other synthetic material. Instead, it’s made of fluffy red hair and weighs a mere 3 lbs. Every morning, without fail, as the sun begins to peek through the blinds, I hear the familiar patter of little paws pacing back and forth on the edge of the bed. This is my Pomeranian, Sophia, or as I like to call her in the mornings, “Warden.”

Sophia acts like a prison warden, pacing above her fellow “Pomeranian prisoners,” who are still sleeping in their bed on the floor. Her job, it seems, is to make sure that everyone is accounted for and that no one dares to stay asleep too long. Once she’s satisfied with her patrol, she begins her real mission—waking me up.

Morning Routine: Baby Kisses and Paws

My little Pomeranian alarm clockOnce she’s finished her role as the morning warden, Sophia stumbles over the covers, climbing her way up to my pillow. Her first move is to nuzzle my nose with hers, followed by a generous dose of baby kisses. This daily wake-up call happens between 7:45 am and 8:00 am, just as the sun rises enough to fill the room with light. As soon as the day breaks, Sophia is ready to start her routine—playtime, followed by her much-anticipated breakfast.

At this point, I’m still pretending to sleep, hoping for just a few more minutes of peace. But Sophia doesn’t fall for it. As soon as I open my eyes, she knows I’m awake, and I know my fate is sealed—I have to get up! If I even try to go back to sleep, she throws what can only be described as a mini barking tantrum. She’ll circle twice, hop up on my chest, and let out small barks while nudging my hands, refusing to stop until I start petting her.

Bedtime Battles: The Netflix Ritual

My Little Pomeranian alarm clockWhile mornings with Sophia are full of energy, bedtime is a whole different story. Our nightly ritual involves watching something on Netflix together. At the beginning of the movie, she curls up in my lap, cozy and content. By the middle of the movie, she’s moved off my lap and settled beside me in our oversized, comfy chair. But by the end, Sophia has managed to claim the entire chair for herself.

This wouldn’t be such a problem, except I inevitably have to get up—whether it’s for a drink, to answer the phone, or some other interruption. When I return, I find that my little Pomeranian princess has stretched herself across the whole chair, leaving no room for me to squeeze back in without waking her. And, oh, does she snore! I’m not kidding when I say Sophia snores as loudly as her dad. So, by the end of the movie, I usually find myself on the couch while she snoozes away like royalty.

Sophia’s Persistent Attention-Grabbing

My Little Pomeranian alarm clockAs I was writing this post, Sophia was determined to steal my attention. She nudged my foot three times and performed her signature cute little dance—twice! Anything to get me to focus on her. She’s incredibly persistent and never gives up. As soon as I give in and look at her, she wags her tail with excitement, knowing she’s “won.” And of course, belly rubs are her ultimate reward!

A Princess in Every Way

Sophia truly is a little princess, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Whether she’s waking me up with her soft little paws and baby kisses or stealing the entire chair at night, she’s a constant source of joy and entertainment. Her persistence and charm make every day special, and I’m so lucky to have her as my fluffy, Pomeranian alarm clock.
