Pumpkin Spice and Halloween Vibes
It’s Pumpkin Latte season at Starbucks… but more importantly, it’s Halloween time! Although I’ve been to Starbucks at least half a dozen times since “Pumpkin Spice Lattes” came out, I love this season for something far more exciting – visits to the Pumpkin Patch. Las Vegas may not have the changing colors of fall leaves, but there are plenty of fun fall-themed activities to enjoy.
Annual Trip to McKee’s Ranch
For the past several years, I’ve packed up all the Pommies and headed down to McKee’s Ranch, just down the road from us. McKee’s is our go-to spot for picking out pumpkins and snapping adorable fall photos. It was always a favorite outing for Maggie and Sofia. Sofia especially loved playing on the haystacks and pretending to be a scarecrow supermodel!
Planning the Perfect Day
Before we even begin our fun day at McKee’s, I make sure to plan everything down to the finest details—especially what outfits Niko and Yoki will be wearing. Being the only girls in the house, Yoki gets spoiled with all the tutus and hair clips I can find! She’s such a good sport, allowing me to dress her up in all the cute fall outfits I’ve collected. I’m sure sometimes she thinks her Pommy Mommy is a bit off her rocker, especially during the fall holiday season, but she’s always ready to show off her 7 lbs of poofy beauty.
Dressing Up for the Pumpkin Patch
I probably shouldn’t admit this, but Niko is just as accommodating as Yoki. I can dress him up from head to toe, and he will happily strut around McKee’s Ranch. His favorite costume is Jack Sparrow, and he looks absolutely adorable prancing around with his pirate eye patch—Arrr Matey!
A New Tradition with Baby Gio
This year, we’re starting a new tradition by bringing our little human baby, Gio, to McKee’s Ranch! Gio will be three months old on October 6th, and time has flown by so fast. I’m already brainstorming with Yoki and Niko to figure out how to dress my “Three Little Amigos” for our pumpkin patch adventure. It’s going to be the cutest trip yet!
Pomeranian Pumpkin Patch Checklist
If you’re planning on taking your Pomeranian to a pumpkin patch this year, I’ve put together a simple checklist of things I always pack for my Pommy adventures:
Fresh Water and Water Bowl
Hydration is a must for our little Pommies. Some places might not offer fresh water, so it’s always smart to bring your own.
Oversized Blanket
I always keep an oversized blanket in the back of my Jeep for family picnics. Pumpkin patches are perfect spots for spreading out a cozy blanket and enjoying the day.
Camera for Capturing Great Photos
The natural backdrop of a pumpkin patch makes it so easy to take beautiful photos of my Poms. Don’t forget your camera!
Squeaky Toys
Squeaky toys are a lifesaver when your Poms need a little extra entertainment. Plus, they make great props for fun photos!
Poo Bags
Always be a prepared Pommy Mommy and never leave a mess behind. Poo bags are a must!
Brush
Pumpkin patches are full of straw and dust, so a brush is essential. I bring two types: a nylon brush and one that looks like a rake. They’re perfect for giving my Poms a quick touch-up before photos and cleaning them up before heading home.
Making New Memories
Once our bag is packed, we’re off to the patch! Every year, we make wonderful memories at the pumpkin patch. My favorite memory is Little Sophia chasing chickens in her adorable pumpkin costume. She was my fearless little three-pound warrior princess, taking her job seriously as an “official” chicken herder!
