Waiting to find treats.
If your Pomeranian is anything like my three girls they were not brought up to understand what a toy is. Today I will show you a fun easy game you can play with your Pomeranian that doesn’t involve toys and is a great amount of fun for you and your Pomeranian!
Maggie, Yoki and Sophia were all rescued from an abused home and didn’t understand the idea of “play” before they came to live at the Pommy Mommy Home. I would try and introduce new stuffed animals and rubber toys to them but they had zero interest. I wanted my girls to live a happy and fun life so I would try and make up games for them to play.
When a Pomeranian is at play they are getting in a good amount of exercise and their mind is thinking and being active. Brain activity and stimulation is great for a Pomeranian of any age.
Our favorite game to play is called “FIND” It’s a very simple game of hunting. For this game your
Pomeranian will need to understand the command “STAY”. (Or have someone else make sure he/she stays in one place without moving.) The basics of this game is hide and seek. You hide treats and your Pomeranian finds them!
Step 1. Grab 4-5 small treats. I usually use the Pommy Mommy “Snaks” when playing this game because they are so small in size, I can make sure the girls only have a few.
Step 2: Tell your Pomeranian to STAY… have them stay in one room so they can’t see you when you go into the next room.
Step 3: Making sure your Pomeranian can’t see you, start hiding the treats. (Make sure to hide the treats down low so your Pomeranian can sniff and easily reach them when they are on the hunt for them.)
Step 4: After all of the treats are hidden… call your Pomeranian to come into the next room. Make him/her sit and be calm. Then say “FIND” (As with all commands, this command will take some time for your Pomeranian to respond.., be patient, they’ll come around.) The first time you play this game you want to keep saying FIND and show him where the first treat is. This way he/she get’s the idea what is going on.
After a few rounds of practice you’re Pomeranian will get very excited when you call him/her in the next room to
start finding the treats! When they do find the treats make sure to encourage him/her and tell them expressions like “Good Job!” or “Good Boy!!” , “Good Girl!!” In your “happy voice”.
Step 5: After your Pommy has successfully found all of the hidden treats you want to let them know to stop sniffing and hunting for treats. I usually say the phrase “All Gone” and hold my hands up in the air. This way they know the game is over.
I hope you have fun playing this game with your Pomeranian! My girls have a blast hunting and trying to find all of the hidden treats!

I play this all the time with my dogs! They’re so good at it, so I have to hide the treats under the carpet, in a shoe, on a chair etc. A REALLY good brain activity when you don’t have much time. I can also recommend growing a patch of grass in your backyard (if you have one) a little longer, and throw food/treats in there, and then letting your dog(s) find them. And also, if you’re more than one person, you can let a family member or friend outside with your dog(s) while you hide somewhere inside your house. Then letting the dog(s) find you. I do this when my boyfriend is in the forest with us. I go ahead and hide somewhere in the forest, and the dogs will have to find me by using their nose. It’s really fun! I recommend it!
