This week I had the pleasure of chatting over email with a mommy of a rescue Pomeranian. I’d like to introduce you to Kojo and his mom Charisse! Kojo is one of the cute Pomeranian’s that follows Pommy Mommy on Instagram. Like the Pommy Mommy girls, Kojo is also a rescue Pomeranian. I love rescue stories about Pomeranians, so I thought that I would share this heartwarming story with you. His mom was nice enough to take time and chat with me about how Kojo came to live with her and her family!
When I asked Charisse how she rescued Kojo, she said that Kojo was a stray that literally walked into their life (as well as the front door of their home) She goes on to tell me that one cold, nippy winter morning she was getting her kids ready to go out. Those of you who have children know how crazy things can be when you have to bundle up your little one! Scarfs and hats everywhere with mittens flying about! Things can get pretty crazy! Amongst the getting ready process a little, damp, matted, and skinny Pomeranian quickly darted in! (Poor little baby, looking for a warm spot to cozy up and get a nice meal. In my opinion he could not have darted into a better home!)
Charisse quickly went over to check out this wet matted pup. Being a nurse, Charisse said that her compassion and “nurse like
instinct” instantly took over when she saw this poor little abused Pomeranian. She examined her little furry, wet patient and taking a closer look at him she discovered cigarette burns on his genital area. As soon as she saw the abuse this sweet little Pomeranian had gone through she was sick and extreamly mad at whoever had done this to her new found friend.
Wanting to find out who could do such a thing to a Pomeranian Charisse asked her neighbors if they knew who the dogs owners were, however no one recognized him. She talked to her family, and they all came to one conclusion, that he was dumped off or left for dead in the freezing winter cold. This little Pomeranian is a fighter though, he wasn’t ready to die!!
Charisse took the little furry fighter to the vet where he was given shots, hydration and a nice grooming because he was so badly matted. The family took him back home where they decided to give this sweetie a name! The family had always named there furbabies with 4 letter names so they decided to keep the tradition going! Charisses husband came up with the name Kojo. They shortly looked for a permanent home for Kojo, however the family decided that they were the best family for him! They have been proven right, Charisse says, “Kojo is our “Family Mascot” as he is loved by all our friends and family and we take him with us everywhere!”
She goes on to tell me since they rescued Kojo he has been featured in a news segment in San Francisco with a story about how he was rescued as well as won “cutest pet” at Charisse’s work last year! (How could you not think Kojo is just the most adorable looking poof ball!)
Thanks to Kojo and his awesome mommy for being the first featured “Pommy Mommy Rescue Story”
Hope you have enjoyed this amazing rescue story as much as I did! Thanks to his rescue family, Kojo has lots of life left in him!!!
***Charisse told me, “We love him more than words can ever express.” I’m sure Kojo would love to read your comments as well! Find more pictures of him (and his mommy) on Instagram @luvclaire” ***

Thank you so so so much for sharing Kojo’s story. I have tears in my eyes after reading this. I am forever grateful for the love that Kojo has brought all of us. More power pommy-mommy! Kojo sends his love!
OMG what an amazing story!
Charisse is a good woman with a huge heart and I love seeing stories like this…what a lucky little guy Kojo is.
thank you for sharing such a heart warming story. xo
Thank you for sharing. I don’t know how people can be so cruel and disgusting but the fact that there are people out there like yourselves willing to give these dogs loving forever homes restores some faith.

What a lucky puppy! And what a sweet Pommy Mommy! Thank you for sharing.
How sad for him. I cannot believe what cruel things people do to animals….if you do not want an animal simply give it up…why torture it and leave it for dead. So heartbreaking. I am so happy he has a happy forever home now where he is loved.
Our pom was from a sad situation of neglect. We will never know her full story but she wasn’t in very good shape. She can’t bark, had clear signs of not being taken care of and couldn’t walk properly from standing on a grated cage most of her life. She had a very bad cold as well as some trachea damage from a choke chain which she didn’t need because shes an awesome walker…She was terrified of us for about the first month. She’s a happy heathy girl now with lots of love! She serves as a therapy dog with the elderly as well 🙂 she’s a big snuggler and such a cute personality. Even becoming playful at the park the last month or so. One thing I can say is at least my dogs prior owner finally did the right thing and gave her up.
I am enthusiastic to hear of other rescue situations. I am happy there are truly loving people out there to help these helpless animals stuck with bad bad humans…
Hi Angela,
I too have a rescued pomeranian male about 7 or 8. He was found roaming the streets, matted hair, long nails and rotten teeth. He was fostered for 2 wks prior to coming home forever to me and my cocker spaniel
Sam and A mini pincher named Dipity. He has had 11 teeth removed, claws clipped and coat dematted. I have only had him a week and the change in him is so rewarding. In this short time he has become a therapy dog at a rest home too. He happily sits on their knees and who wouldn’t be moved by their eyes. It saddens me to learn that so many pomeranians get abandoned and abused. What is going on in our societies?
OMG I LOVE THIS STORY!!! Such a wonderful rescue story and such a great family to rescue him. <3 <3 <3 <3
