This week, I had the pleasure of chatting with Charisse, a loving Pommy Mommy and the proud owner of a rescue Pomeranian named Kojo. Kojo is one of the adorable Pomeranians who follows Pommy Mommy on Instagram, and like the Pommy Mommy girls, Kojo has his own inspiring rescue story. I love sharing these heartwarming tales of resilience, and today, I’m excited to share Kojo’s story with all of you. Charisse was kind enough to tell me how Kojo became a part of her family, and it’s a story that’s sure to touch your heart.
How Kojo Walked Into Their Lives
When I asked Charisse how she came to rescue Kojo, she explained that Kojo literally walked into their lives—and their front door! It was a cold, winter morning, and Charisse was busy getting her kids ready to head out. If you’re a parent, you know how hectic those mornings can be, with scarves, mittens, and hats flying everywhere. Amid the chaos, a little, damp, matted, and skinny Pomeranian darted into their home, seeking warmth and safety.
This poor little pup, likely in search of a warm place and a decent meal, couldn’t have picked a better home to stumble into. Charisse’s nurturing instincts kicked in immediately, and she rushed to check on the wet, shivering dog.
Discovering Kojo’s Past
Charisse, being a nurse, was quick to assess the situation. Her compassion and “nurse-like instinct” took over as she examined the small, matted dog. To her horror, she discovered cigarette burns on his genital area. Seeing the abuse this sweet little Pomeranian had endured made Charisse feel both sick and angry at whoever had treated him so cruelly.
Determined to find out who had hurt this dog, she asked her neighbors if they recognized him, but no one knew where he came from. The family quickly realized that this little dog had likely been abandoned and left for dead in the freezing cold. But Kojo, as they would later name him, was a fighter—he wasn’t ready to give up.
Kojo’s Road to Recovery
Charisse took Kojo to the vet, where he received his vaccinations, much-needed hydration, and a grooming session to clean up his severely matted fur. After his check-up, the family decided it was time to give this resilient little Pomeranian a name. In keeping with the family tradition of giving their pets four-letter names, they decided on the name Kojo—suggested by Charisse’s husband.
At first, they considered finding Kojo a new permanent home, but before long, the family realized they were the best home for him. They had already fallen in love with this sweet little dog, and Kojo was quick to return the affection.
A New Life for Kojo
Since his adoption, Kojo has become a central figure in Charisse’s family. In fact, she calls him their “Family Mascot,” and it’s easy to see why. Kojo is adored by all of Charisse’s friends and family, and they take him with them everywhere. His journey from a cold, scared stray to a beloved family member is a testament to the power of love and rescue.
Kojo the Pomeranian has not only found a loving home but has also become a local celebrity! He starred in a San Francisco news segment that highlighted his incredible rescue story. And last year, he even won “Cutest Pet” at Charisse’s workplace. It’s no surprise—Kojo is one adorable fluffball, and his spirit shines through his journey.
The Power of Rescue
Kojo’s story is a reminder of the importance of rescue and the incredible transformation that happens when a dog is given a second chance. From a neglected and abused stray, Kojo the Pomeranian has become a happy, loved companion, bringing joy to everyone he meets. Thanks to Charisse and her family, this little Pomeranian has many years of happiness ahead of him.
