Today, I’m excited to share one of my favorite fall Pumpkin dog treat recipes, which you can easily make at home with your furry taste tester—um, I mean Pomeranian!
My favorite time of year in the U.S. is almost here—Fall—Harvest Time!
Fall in Las Vegas
Living in Las Vegas, the summer heat can be intense, but around the end of September and early October, it finally cools down (if you can call it 80 degrees cool). To celebrate the season, I love decorating my home with pumpkins, cinnamon sticks, and warm apple cider candles.
Pumpkin-Flavored Treats for Pomeranians
A big part of this harvest celebration is making pumpkin-flavored treats for my Pomeranians. They gobble them up! I always have three little taste testers lined up and ready for action in the kitchen. Plus, I no longer need a broom because they pounce on anything that drops from the counter—like lions pouncing on their prey—but about 500 pounds lighter!
Important Ingredient Note
When shopping for this pumpkin dog treat recipe, you’ll notice that the market is stocked with canned pumpkin and canned pumpkin pie mix. Make sure you grab canned pumpkin, not the pie mix for this recipe. The cans can look similar, so double-check before you buy. You can also use fresh pumpkin if you prefer!
Pommy Mommy Pumpkin Dog Treat Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 1/2 cups Whole Wheat Flour
- 2 Large Eggs
- 2/3 cup Pumpkin Purée (canned or fresh)
- 3 tablespoons Peanut Butter (mounded)
Directions:
- Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Mix the Ingredients
Place all ingredients in the mixing bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Mix on medium for about a minute or until the dough looks like little dough balls.
Add a little water if the dough crumbles when you pinch a piece. If it’s too sticky, add a little flour.
- Form the Dough
Gather the dough together and form it into a ball. Place it on a lightly floured work surface and roll it out to about 1/4-inch thickness.
- Cut Out Shapes
Use a small cookie cutter to cut the dough into shapes.
- Place on Baking Sheet
Place the cookies on a baking sheet. You can crowd them close together since they don’t expand much during baking.
- Bake the Treats
Bake the cookies for 15-20 minutes for softer treats or 30 minutes for hard treats, depending on your preference. The recipe makes over 100 1-inch dog treats.
- Storage
If you make softer treats, it’s a good idea to store them in the refrigerator to keep them fresh.
Additional Tips for Treat Variations
